World Book Day celebrates love of reading

Published on 07/03/17

Pupils and staff at Great Yarmouth Primary Academy celebrated World Book Day last week in costumes inspired by their favourite children’s books.

Staff and pupils came to school on Thursday, March 1 dressed up as storybook characters including The Cat In The Hat, Little Bo Peep, and the Queen of Hearts from Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland.

World Book Day is held every year to celebrate books and promote reading in schools across the country.

Every child received a special £1 book token which can be exchanged for one of ten exclusive World Book Day books from authors including David Walliams, Julia Donaldson, and Jacqueline Wilson, or used to get £1 off any full-price book at participating bookshops.

Principal Stephen Astley said: “It was fantastic to see the children and staff in their costumes for World Book Day.

“At Great Yarmouth Primary Academy we are passionate about the power of reading and this was a great way to celebrate how important books are to us.”
