Two talented mathematicians from Hethersett Academy have scored places in the final rounds of a major UK maths competition.
Greg Frazer qualified for the Olympiad level, and Aidan Banfield for the Kangaroo level, following their success in the British Intermediate Challenge run by the UK Mathematics Trust.
It’s the fourth year in a row that the Year 11 pair have qualified for the next rounds of the challenge, which saw them competing against over 250,000 students from 3,000 schools across the country.
Dozens more Hethersett students from Years 9 to 11 were awarded Bronze, Silver, and Gold certificates for their high scores in the tournament, which aims to stimulate mathematical thinking and enhance problem-solving skills.
Maths teacher Veronica Drobak said: “Hethersett Academy has a great record in achieving high in this competition.
“Greg and Aidan showed deep understanding and speed in solving very challenging maths problems, and it’s an outstanding achievement for them to qualify for the next rounds yet again.”
